This was taken from an article in an old edition of the Company magazine.........I know when it was written, is there anyone else out there who hnows what year - even better what time of year - this refers to? Log your answers on the site.... I'll give the answer at the end of the month (June).
Enjoy................
At this point in the season our three teams are comfortably
placed in their respective sections - the 2nd XV in particular having
recorded only three league defeats so far in a season of
some notable victories.
The 1st XV under Willy Pauley are settling down and playing some good honest
rugby and getting results. There have been a number of team changes this year
and they have taken time to settle but at last the balance appears right, which
augurs well for the future.
The 2nd W under Rab Toland are certainly the team getting the results this year
and amassing some well deserved points.Recently there have been a number of injuries
particularly to the three quarters and I hope this doesn't blunt the attacking edge
of the Seconds who seem to be suffering most.
The 3rd W are safely positioned in the League and enjoyed a good cup run,
beating UUJ and BHSFP before losing to Malone in a cracking game. At this point
in the season the 3rds in particular are suffering from the shortage of players and
have encouraged some of the more'mature' players to return to the fray. These
include the evergreen W. Turner (fresh out of retirement againl) and Jim McKeown
(selector, entrepreneur and all round athlete).
Amongst the more seriously injured is Mark Miichell who broke his ankle and required
surgery to repair the damage. Take it easy Mark, you haw a life-time of rugby
ahead of you!
Young Bobby lrvine has once again had his nose knocked out of alignment but
some long overdue surgery should leave all parts of his body once again pointing
in the right direction. The numbers at Training although steady
are not proportionally high enough to ensure the results the Club and the coaches
deserve, so come on lads, take a leaf out of J. King's book and 'toughen up'. You
know who you are!
Remember, new members are made very welcome any Tuesday and Thursday at
Aircraft Park, at 7.00 p.m.
